Awoke at 5.00 am to the sounds of rain and gale force winds. After some discussion it was decided to err on the side of safety and suspend the ride until the weather improved. It was simply too dangerous to be on the roads. The wind gusts could easily blow one rider into the other or worse still into the path of a vehicle. The crew decided to drive to Sydney and recommence the ride from the scheduled rider change in Penshurst
En-route the Red Team dropped by the Shimano HQ with Maddy and Hayley from Caribou. We were a bit late riding through Sydney. Apologies to any NSW guys who were going to ride with us. Thanks to the NSW crews from Kiama, Engadine, Hurstville and Concord for their support. Apologies if I left anyone out or misspelt names.
Still a bit behind time, Conan and Sam were given the challenge of doing 30 kms in 45 minutes to Gosford Hotel for a meeting with the Mayor, Clr Laurie Maher. A few photos were taken with the Mayor and then stood around with him and listened to the cup. Off again and 3 stages left to Raymond Terrace.
Mark and Steve M had a very pleasant ride down through the hills and along next to the water before a small incline into Charlestown. Sam and Conan took off for the final stage and didn’t drop below 50 except for traffic lights.
We arrived at the motel in Raymond Terrace for a meal and a drink with Ted and the Caribou crew. Quiet little Lauren was the star attraction in her Melbourne Cup gear (dressed to Kill!!). Major attraction for the locals was Lauren being driven around town on the PA urging the locals to get their prostate checked.
