The Blue Team have bonded really well (some may argue TOO well) and are fully pumped. All the boys are working together as a strong team, from the riders to their support crew. Today was hot out on the bitumen as the temperature sat in the low 30s for much of the day but the team stayed cool – well hydrated and very focussed on grinding those pedals. Shippers, Norm and John are doing a great job too. ‘Their support, care and motivation are invaluable,’ says Dave. “We are all really looking out for one another.

Speaking of Dave, a couple of funny stories about the esteemed leader of this incredible blue bunch:

Apparently he was so tired on Friday morning that he couldn’t work out why his ‘nether regions’ were feeling under pressure. Turns out he had put his nicks on back to front; he would have ridden all day with his crown jewels facing backwards if he hadn’t finally worked it out

Yesterday he shoved his state-of-the-art, beez neez, you bewt Garmin bike computer in the back pocket of his jersey because the rain was so heavy - but tragically it fell out somewhere along the road. Whilst this is certainly no laughing matter, the image of Dave and John retracing the last 8kms of that leg in one of the vehicles, driving at 20kms/hour, hazard lights on and Dave, bare-chested, hanging right out of the car window staring aimlessly at the grass along the side of the road would have been a head-scratching sight. Losing his precious Garmin so traumatised Dave that he took off like a greyhound when he got back on the road and scorched up the highway at about 45kms/hour until Pete begged him to slow down. Shame that fancy gizmo doesn’t have a homing device on it Dave…
