Q. How far will you be riding each day?
A. On average each rider will cover 112km per day and 2500km over the 25 days. The entire team will cover 600 km per day to ensure we meet our deadline of getting back to Melbourne at 1:00pm on Thursday 25 November.

Q. Why have you decided to travel anti-clockwise?
A. We did extensive research into weather patterns around Australia over the past 50 years. Had we gone the other direction we would have faced more headwinds making it difficult to achive the ride in our designated time.

Q. What speed will you be travelling?
A. On average we will be travelling at 25km/h. In the hilly sections up the east coast of Australia we will travel slightly slower and make up for the time in the flatter sections.

Q. What sort of bikes will you be riding?
A. We will be riding Giant TCR Advance bikes provided by one of our sponsors, Bicycles Inc in South Yarra.

Q. Why have you chosen to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer?
A. The Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade is predominantly male, however we do have around 50 female firefighters. The average age of firefighters is around the age where men should begin screening for prostate cancer which is one of the largest killers of men in Australia. As everyone has a friend or family member who is susceptible to this cancer we thought it appropriate to help this worthwhile cause.

Q. How long have you been planning this event?
A. Preliminary work commenced in February 2008. Many hours of research and planning have taken place since then to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride for all involved.

Q. Will you be riding through the night?
A. Yes, we will be riding 24 hours a day. There will be two seperate groups who will leapfrog each other. The only time we will stop is if it becomes dangerous for the riders on the road due to weather or traffic conditions. We will have safety vehicle in front of and behind the riders at all times to ensure the safety of our riders.

Q. What do you mean by leap frogging?
A. There will be two groups of three teams. Each of the three teams rides for 1.5 hours then has a 3 hour rest. The group does this three times over 13.5 hours before catching up to the other group. They will then sleep at that location or drive to where the next changeover point is. This cycle continues over the entire ride.

Q. What accommodation will you use along the way?
A. One of our sponsors is the Australian Hotel's Association. We will be staying in their accommodation which are near the changeover points. Team members will have to sleep irregular hours throughout the night and day.

Q. What is the make-up of the team?
A. The team consists of 12 riders and 6 support personnel. Each group of 2 riders will have a support person and there will be a ride coordinator. Our event management company will also be supporting us with fund raising and promotional events along the route.

Q. What will you eat and how will you cook?
A. We will have a variety of meal options throughout the ride. We will have pre-packaged meals, use of facilities at hotels and other accommodation. It will be important to eat regular healthy meals to ensure we have the energy to complete the ride in 25 days.

Q. How will the teams communicate with each other?
A. We will have a variety of communications to keep in touch with each other and the broader community. These will include mobile phones, UHF radios, satellite phones the Internet and emergency distress beacons.

Q. How will the teams wash clothes and do other maintenance tasks?
A. There will be limited time to perform these tasks in the time off. We will utilise hotel facilities and laundomats for washing clothes. Everyone will chip in to perform all the tasks required. In the time between riding they have to travel, sleep, eat, shower and do all the other tasks required. While we will be busy we have done tabletop exercises to ensure the schedule is achievable.
